Bass Face

Hat - New Look (old)
Necklace - Topshop (old)
Kaftan - H&M
Black Cycle Shorts - eBay
Shoes - Fashion Union (sold out )
Lipstick - Barry M Pillarbox Red

I'm trying to do something a little bit different with my photos at the moment so today i'm trying out a new idea of putting an image next to some text and not using the flip effect. These photos are not really the best quality, it's a very dark, stormy day here in Bristol so the lighting is terrible, you can't see that i'm wearing black lace trimmed cycle shorts underneath this lovely kaftan. This top was an early birthday present from my boyfriend, and I absolutely love it, it's very 70s and I love the print.

I went out on Saturday for my birthday and had an amazing night, lots of lovely friends came and we went to Mothers Ruin in Bristol, who had 'Roll Over Beethoven' on; a 50's style rockabilly night. Aside from that I have been spending lots of time practicing the bass guitar, which I started learning a few weeks ago and caring for my poor fingers which are killing from the thick strings!

Walk On The Wild Side

Lipstick - Clinique
Dress - Motel Rocks
Shoes - Fashion Union
Socks - Primark

It feels like ages since I last did an outfit post and i've been wanting to show you guys this dress for a really long time! It's the acid wash Tinkerbell from Motel Rocks and I had been wanting it for absolutely ages - as you guys will know if you've read my blog for a while. It was £48 so I never got around to buying it, until I spotted it in Topshop for £20 and snapped it up! It's very short so i've been wearing it with tights or more recently my lace trimmed cycle shorts; I just love this smock/babydoll style. Today I have teamed it with a vintage bag, Dr Martens style lace up shoes and some frilly socks from Primark - which come in a 5 pack of pastel colours for £2.50.

Today I went to Rocotillos Diner in Bristol, which if you're from the area is on the Clifton Triangle, they do the best vegetarian breakfasts and lots of delicious milkshakes (although not together) and today we popped in for a milkshake before taking a walk around Clifton. I went for Peanut Butter, and Tom went for extra thick Vanilla, both were amazing! I really want to start pushing myself to create more interesting photography for my blog so today was the perfect opportunity and I hope you like the outcome.

Bristol Shopping Quarter: Summer of Great Offers

This week I was contacted by the Bristol Shopping Quarter about their 'Summer of Great Offers' campaign. The campaign is all about getting people into Bristol and celebrating the local and long standing stores we have here in the city, and as an incentive to get you guys out shopping they are currently offering a different discount every day. Each day they will be featuring a great offer or promotion on their Facebook page (which you can find here) and all you need to do is print the voucher and take it into whichever shop it is for.

This is something that I feel really passionate about because I find it really sad how the British High Street is falling and how difficult it is for local businesses to survive in the current climate. The UK has the best high street, in my opinion, in the World, but in the past few years a lot of new shopping centres have opened which have meant the demise of the old areas, and especially in Bristol the opening of Cabot Circus in 2008 has meant the Broadmead area has really suffered. The point of this campaign is to remind people of some of the great businesses in the area and encourage everyone to give them a bit of love :)

The businesses involved are shown on the map below and wanted to point a few out to you which i'm particularly excited about.

Pepenero - A great little restaurant which offers a huge range of Italian Vegetarian and Vegan food along with all the classic Meat dishes.

The Fragrance Shop - Already really well priced, they sell all of the perfumes you would expect including my favourite; Marc Jacobs - Daisy.

Fitness 4 Less - This is my gym and I love it, that's all I have to say ha!

I'm really excited about the 'Summer of Great Savings' as you guys know I love a good bargain, and would love you guys to let me know if you take advantage of any of the offers.

The Band Wagon

As i'm sure you all know the weather has been pretty hot the past two weeks, and I do love it but my only issue is I don't know what to wear?! I really don't like my legs so it has to be pretty bloody warm for me to get them out and it is definitely that warm at the moment.

I've been wearing lots of midi skirts and have teamed this black Missguided one with an old crop top from Topshop. The belt is vintage and the sunglasses and necklace are both from Primark and very recent! I have been absolutely loving Primark recently, i've bought loads of great jewellery in there as well as a few dresses and t shirts - which is great for my wardrobe and my bank balance.

I'm trying to think up some ideas for some different photography styles for my blog, photography was part of my Uni course so i'm usually really good at thinking of ideas but I think I might be having a block because i'm the one in the photos which i'm still not really used to! I have tried some outside today though which I hope makes a nice change :)

I have been really into tumblr the past week and if you don't follow me on there you can here, it's full of lots of pictures of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg so have a look if you love these people as much as I do. In the mean time here's a few of my favourite images that I have posted recently...

PS - Did you spot my little photographer in the reflection in the window ha!

Glastonbury Festival 2013

As you may know, it's not like I mentioned it or anything, last week I went to Glastonbury Festival and have been slightly depressed ever since I got back. It was the 4th time i've been to Glastonbury and every time it just gets better and better! We were really lucky with the weather, it only rained on one of the days, but to be honest i'm not sure I would care whether it was thunder and lightening i'm just so happy to be there. I went with a big group, there were around 16 of us including my boyfriend, brother, cousins and best friends and I could not have gone with a better group of people, but i'm sure every one says that! As i've mentioned in a previous post I love disposable cameras and of course took a couple to the festival and am so pleased I did because I lost one and the other came out really well!

As you can see I wore my floral crown and lots of fake eyelashes which helped with the general awful state my hair and face were in the majority of the time! If you went to Glastonbury i'd love to know if you enjoyed it and if not I hope these photos make you want to go next year!

The Best Cookie Recipe

I have been meaning to do a blog post on these cookies for quite a while, because it's such an easy recipe for the best cookies ever!

I got the recipe from my friend Bea who has her own craft blog and today I roped my friend Smit into helping me make them. His duties were to stir and sieve which I can tell he absolutely loved, if you have a spare afternoon I would definitely give these a go because I can guarantee you will love them!

Ingredients

  • 4oz marg
  • 4oz light brown sugar
  • 1tbsp golden syrup
  • 100g chocolate chips/chunks
  • 6oz self raising flour
  • 1 tbsp vanilla essence

I always soften the margarine in the microwave for 10 seconds just to make it easier to stir in.

Add the sugar and flour but make sure you sieve it to get rid of any lumps!

If you have chocolate chips then great if you've bought a big bar of chocolate then cut it into chunks, you could also use smarties, malteasers, caramel nibbles anything!

Add syrup and vanilla essence, you don't have to use vanilla i've used almond and orange before and it's great to experiment.

When you think the mixture is consistent enough then get a small amount in your hand and roll it around into a ball.

Make sure they're evenly placed so they don't end up touching and make sure you grease the tray first or use grease proof paper so they don't get stuck!

Let me know if you make these, i'd love to hear if you love them too <3

Blogger Of The Month: Charlene O'Rourke

I am back from Glastonbury and am far too depressed to concentrate on anything, so have decided to do a blogger of the month post straight away!

This month I have picked my blogger of the month as...Charlene O'Rourke from Strutt, who I will start by saying is just an absolute babe! I first found Strutt, as I discovered a lot of my favourite blogs, through working at Motel and have followed her blog ever since. Her style is very cool and she always looks perfectly done with all of the items of her outfit really well put together. She has gorgeous dark hair which is often accessorised with a black hat and no outfit is complete without a slick of her signature red lipstick. Charlene wears a lot of Motel, but she wears them in a way which isn't typical of your Motel girl. Often Motel girls are thought of as wearing tight bodycon dresses with huge heels and big hair but I love the way Charlene mixes this up and styles her pieces with vintage and a rock n roll edge.

Using a lot of monochrome, print and denim, I love the way Charlene uses one print as a focus and then mixes her vintage monochrome style with it. I get a bit of a 70s bohemian vibe from her look mixed in with quite a 90s grunge which is a great combination!

Strutt is a great, minimal blog and I like the way, only one photo is used to show the outfit, with hardly any text, which I think makes it easier to read and gives focus to the important bit; the outfits! There's also a great side bar with recommendations and just to make her even more fashionable there is a tab for outfits Charlene has made herself!

As usual i'd love to know if Charlene is one of your favourite bloggers or if your gonna check her out after reading this, let me know in the comments and check out her blog here.
